Matilda S. Santucci of Chester County
Matilda S. Santucci, 85, longtime resident of Chester County, recently of Philadelphia, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. She was the wife of the late Salvatore Santucci who passed away in 2005 and with whom she shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Italy, she was the daughter of the late Israel and Mary DiVirgilio Santilli. Matilda was a registered nurse who worked for Hahnemann Hospital, Dr. Mercer, Cheyney University and Lincoln University. She was listed on the American Immigrant Wall of Honor at Ellis Island and in the Who’s Who of Chester County. She is survived by her son, Steven J. Santucci of Yardley; one daughter, Nancy S. Cohen of Philadelphia; two sisters, Clara Hatton and Laura Huffman; four grandchildren, Susan Santucci-Parr, Stephanie Santucci, Joshua Cohen, and Julia Cohen. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by one son, Jeffrey Santucci. A memorial service celebrating the lives of Matilda Santucci and her late husband, Salvatore Santucci who passed away on October 8, 2005, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, at the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 West State Street, Kennett Square. You may visit with the family from 10:30 to 11 a.m. A WWII veteran, Salvatore Santucci honorably served in the Army Air Corps. He was a graduate of Goldey Beacom College and was self-employed as a mushroom farmer in Chester County.
